Tanjong Maya Secondary School (SMTM) in the Tutong District with
the cooperation of the school's English Department held a choral speaking competition as part of the school's re
ading week activities.
Six secondary schools participated in the competition. The schools were RIPAS Secondary School, Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School, Sayyidina Othman Secondary School, PAP Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Secondary School, Muda Hashim Secondary School and the host.
The guest of honour was Pengiran Hajah Sarah Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin, the Acting Director General at the Ministry of Education.
SMTM principal, Aliuddin Haji Abdul Rahman, in a speech said the event was the first ever organised by the school and had "Friendship" as the theme.
Aliuddin added that the competition could increase the usage of English language among students leading to better confidence in its usage.
Tanjong Maya Secondary School won first place while Muda Hashim Secondary School and Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School won the second and third places.
The winning teams received cash prizes, trophies and certificates presented by Pengiran Hajah Sarah Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin.
